Tarceva® is an eligible benefit through most private insurance plans, some provincial/ territorial drug benefit programs and federal drug plans. Please choose the appropriate drug plan/program from the sidebar menu for specific information on Tarceva® reimbursement.

Indication
Tarceva® (erlotinib) therapy is indicated as monotherapy for the treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) after failure of at least one prior chemotherapy regimen, and whose EGFR expression status is positive or unknown. [see Clinical Trials section - Relation of Results to EGFR Protein Expression Status (as Determined by Immunohistochemistry)]

Tarceva® should be administered under the supervision of a qualified health professional who is experienced in the treatment and management of patients with cancer.


Tarceva® is contraindicated in patients with severe hypersensitivity to erlotinib or to any component of Tarceva®.
The most common adverse events with Tarceva® vs. placebo are rash (75% vs 17%), diarrhea (54% vs 18%), fatigue (52% vs 45%), anorexia (52% vs 38%), dyspnea (41% vs 35%), nausea (33% vs 24%), cough (33% vs 29%), and vomiting (23% vs 19%).
Gastrointestinal hemorrhage (2%) was seen in patients taking Tarceva®. Confounding factors included concomitant NSAID use and history of peptic ulcer disease. Interstitial lung disease (0.8%) was seen in each treatment arm.
